Our client needed a cohesive set of brand guidelines. The logo and product packaging had been established and required no change, but the previous website didn’t reflect this, so it was time for a change. The e-commerce platform also needed to be refined, making the shopping process easier for potential customers.

the initial stage
The first stage was to build the brand guidelines. We had the logo and product packaging to build from, which was a great start, but we needed to make an eyecatching, luxurious site that expanded on this. The logo and packaging’s gold linework was reflective of the art deco style from the roaring 20s, so we wanted to have elements of this running through the whole site to create a vintage-inspired, luxurious theme.
ITC AVANT GARDE
ITC Avant Garde Gothic is a font family based on the logo font used in the Avant Garde magazine. Herb Lubalin devised the logo concept and its companion headline typeface, then he and Tom Carnase, a partner in Lubalin’s design firm, worked together to transform the idea into a full-fledged typeface.

next steps
This was a very design-heavy project for us; the development side of the website didn’t require any complex functionality, so we loved refining the design and making this the shining star of the project.
We used custom illustrations of botanicals in the background of the website pages to represent the all-natural nature of Peppermint Pear’s products. All of the botanical illustrations featured on the website represent ingredients used in the soaps available to buy, which adds an extra level of detail to the overall design. The green tones in these illustrations coupled with the art deco-inspired colours featured in the rest of the site denote premium quality and has a very timeless appearance.
